Has anyone heard of the anime/manga Death Note? It's finished now, and it was broadcast in Japan at either 2AM or 3AM (can't remember) when it was current, so it's not meant to be for kiddies. :3 (However, it is NOT one of those slash-'em-up anime, but it does involve debate into whether it's correct to kill for the benefit of society.)

Hi everyone!

Well, the poll results were close, but we'd eventually get around to all topics, I think, so it's a matter of order. But we will have a liiiittle break after this contest. I didn't particularly want to draw attention to this because we're NOT begging for a subscription, but this comp is to make the most out of the subscription we currently have. Contest deadline is a week before it expires, to give enough time for voting and features. Then we can have a few weeks break while we're unsubbed, and hopefully the club system will be online by then! See #hq for details on the official groups system. (I'll convert ~Church-Of-L first because I own that club, and scope it out. Eventually I'd want *NarutoWorld to be a proper club, though. Just have to think about how we're going to go about certain things Narutoworld does. )

Anyway~ announcing the contest now to give everyone a lot of time! ^^


Theme - masquerade! What is a masquerade? It's when people wear fine clothes like going to a ball, but everyone has to have a mask! (usually quite glitzy). It can range from a mask just covering the eyes, or a full-face mask. Also, the mask is traditionally attached by a stick on the side, so people have to actively hold their masks in place. Like so Don't know if that applies anymore, though.

As you can see, the design could be ANYTHING, but it's glamorous. Want more examples? Search dA for 'mask' or 'masquerade' sorted by most popular. ^^

Usually we have some kind of list that people choose characters from, but I thought this would be kind of limiting for this comp given it's theme (thought that people would have more fun dressing up their fave character rather than just anyone). So, no limits on which Naruto character, no limit on the number of Naruto characters in the pic, and you may enter more than one entry if you're inspired to do so. To make it a bit different, original characters are accepted, but best if they're designed to be in the Naruto universe . Go ahead - dress them up! (if you do, please provide a link to another pic in your description where they look normal)

Please- when you send in your entry - make the title of the note 'contest' (don't just say it's fanart because we only check those when we do a submissions update).

Thanks to chatting with ~MissMeggsie , I thought that what we were talking about could be made into a fun contest!

So... if you want to enter, like the first one, pick a number and a letter from the list. But what you would be drawing is a COMBINATION of the two characters.

For example, if 1) is NAR (Naruto) and b) is ATA (Hinata), then you would draw a character that combines the characteristics of Naruto and Hinata. (but I haven't made the lists yet, and it will be random)

I could call this an "original character" contest (according to the myths), but I'd get verbally lynched and there are people who actually do put effort into making their original characters. :3

This contest is slightly more competitive than the others, because it's possible for two people to get the same character combination (using the example above, there could be both NARATA and HINUTO - both are a combination of Naruto and Hinata)


Deadline: a short contest, 2 weeks after lists are revealed. ^^ 5th September 7th September

If you want to enter, COMMENT on this journal. (no notes!) State the letter, and the number you want. e.g. 2c
BUT - here's the tricky bit - don't pick a number that is the same rank as your letter, because they would be the same character. e.g. DON'T pick 1a, 2b, 3c, etc.
Check the participants and unreplied comments - make sure that someone hasn't already picked your combination. So if someone's selected 1b, you can't select 1b, but you CAN select 2a (which is the same character combination).
Try to pick combinations of numbers and letters that haven't been used much. Make it an even spread. Now that lists are revealed, I'll pick your combination out of a hat to make it random.
When the lists are revealed, you can combine the characteristics in ANY way. i.e. the first character doesn't have to be the head, and the second the lower half. It can completely be anything you want - doesn't have to be an even combination. Examples of combinations (with the Narata example) - could have Hinata's long hair but with Naruto's hair colour, etc. NO limit to the ways you can combine the characteristics! Make it as fun as you want!
